Happy Mardi Gras

Happy Mardi Gras

Happy Mardi Gras to everyone. This post and several more will not be the standard post of moving and packing. The theme will be Mardi Gras and a little history behind the holiday. More cities around the country has caught on to the celebration including Dallas. Even though most people when they hear  Mardi Gras think of New Orleans Louisiana, the crescent city was not the first city in the United States to celebrate Mardi Gras even though they have taken the holiday to a higher level.

Mobile Alabama was the first city to celebrate Mardi Gras starting in 1703, 15 years before New Orleans was founded. Mobile being the first capital of French Louisiana started the celebration as a French Catholic tradition. The celebration has continued thru the years only being interrupted by war.

Mardi Gras is part of a religious celebration. The revelry starts 2 weeks before Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent. The traditional colors in present day times are Purple (Justice), Green (faith) , and Gold (power). These are the colors that most people use to decorate.
